Hamburg

„Hamburg is simply the most beautiful city in the world.“

Ernest Hemingway

Journey: September 2010

I you ask me, Mister Hemingway could be right with that one. I simply love Hamburg although I've been there just two times, but both were perfect. If you'd offer me to move there, I would seriously consider it. It happened at my first visit, just minutes after leaving the station of Landungsbrücken at the harbour. I fell in love and a small part of my heart stayed forever in Hamburg! It was my mum's first flight and we had an awesome time there. The food, the weather, everything was perfect. Musicalzentrale People who know me know I am a musical theatre lover and therefore Hamburg is always good to visit. It's Germanys equivalent to NYs Broadway and Londons West End, having four big theatres owned and run by the biggest musical company and another big house featuring Harry Potter plus many more smaller theatres. But beware - it's way too expensive to pay the full price, since there are always insider tips on how to get cheaper tickets. Feel free to ask. I've seen "the Lion King" two times there and can strongly recommend it! I'd go to Hamburg any time again just to sit and enjoy the sunset on river Elbe and watch the ships and the harbour.

Or have a look at the inner city and take a bus trip around river Alster, with all the villas and expensive homes around. To me Hamburg is urban and modern and yet somehow comfortable. It's one of the most populated cities in Germany but somehow I always forget then. My grandma always refers to Hamburg as "Gate to the world" and that's the feeling you get when watching the harbour life or taking a boat tour around (something I also recommend).

Hamburg heißt ja nicht umsonst

Die Kräne im Hafen sind für mich auch eine Art Sinnbild der Stadt.
